Did I mention it was a hot day? Everything that came after a massive hot meal had to come with ice.
Ice Kachang or Ais Kacang is essentially shaved ice on top of a mixture of creamed corn, red bean and some jelly like agar agar. The mountain of shaved ice is drizzled with evaporated milk and/or coconut milk, sugary syrup and gula melaka. Although refreshing, it is quite a rich dessert.
Cheng Tng, which is cantonese influenced, is quite typically a hot soupy sweet dessert with “cooling” things like longans, agar agar, lotus seeds and barley. This cold version was quite different from the hot with more focus on the jellies. Not quite what I expected but still not bad!
Almond Jelly is more like a pudding on a bed of shaved ice with some almondy syrup. Quite special and thankfully not so sweet. A nice finisher to a massive brunch!
